2017 Botanicals & birds
My bird and flower watercolours were mostly painted onto crisp white backgrounds. In 2017 I began experimenting with layering techniques to create depth. I also became interested in the humble Ibis and produced several works featuring them.
Bin Chickens - Once We Were Sacred was entered into the Greenway Art Prize and won first prize in the Local Artist category. This painting lifts the status of these unpopular birds to one of majesty, usually reserved for cranes in oriental art. Sometimes I look at our Ibis feeding in the Cook’s River or the wetlands at Sydney Park, and with the help of the Weeping Bottlebrush trees and water, they remind me of an oriental scene.
